Häxan is a fascinating fragrance from Parfum Prissana, which was launched in 2018 as a limited-edition release. The perfumer was Prin Lomros.
Bengale Rouge – Papillon Artisan Perfumes – Fragrance Quick Sniff
In an age of so much hype and so many eagerly-anticipated perfume releases, the build-up to Bengale Rouge still stood out.
L’Air des Alpes Suisses – Tauer Perfumes – Fragrance Quick Sniff
I don’t enjoy writing negative reviews, and I don’t usually do it. But Tauer Perfumes is going to continue to be wildly successful, and Andy Tauer says he hates bloggers, so he’s probably not going to pay any attention to whatever I say, as he shouldn’t. So… I might as well just put this out there and then let it go.
Bluer Skies (Whenever You’re Around) – Chris Rusak Perfume – Fragrance Review
I describe the fragrance simply as “tension.” That’s how I perceive it. Pulling forces, action and reaction, exertion and transmission, and so much potential in between. Hopefully you’ll see what I mean.
Body & Soul – Matthew Decker – Fragrance Review
Body & Soul is a new perfume from Matthew Decker Fragrances. Body & Soul was released in 2019.
Youth Dew Amber Nude – Tom Ford x Estée Lauder – Fragrance Review (and Beauty History!)
Amber Nude comes in the sleek, iconic ribbed and cinched Youth Dew bottle. For me, that’s pretty much where the true similarities end. The fragrance does pay homage to its roots in the deep, dark drydown, but any family resemblance between the two is generations apart. Like, Amber Nude is a swank young socialite, and original Youth Dew is her great-great aunt in regency clothing over on the settee kind of separation.
Ariel – Sammarco – Fragrance Review
Ariel is a green floral perfume created by perfumer Giovanni Sammarco for his brand, Sammarco, and released in 2015. The perfumer describes the scent as ” A romantic and sensual perfume dedicated to redheads.” He says that hidden within the formula of the perfume is the name of a woman.
Rhubarb & Custard 1:29 – 4160 Tuesdays – Fragrance Review (and a cheesecake recipe!)
I chose to order, as a 100mL blind-buy, Rhubarb & Custard 1:29. Not because I love rhubarb fragrances, actually, quite the opposite is true — they never work for me. Too tart, too bitter, too green… but when I saw this one, I just knew I’d found “the one.”
Etat Libre d’Orange Experimentum Crucis, and thoughts on writing “negative reviews”
The topic of negative perfume reviews is pertinent to me today, as I think about my liberties, because I tried a perfume, and I didn’t like it, and usually that would be the end of it. But some people think that my hesitation to then go out and bash the fragrance publicly is a major problem in “the fragcomm,” a giant smear on the credibility and reputations of just about everyone.
The Enemy of Good is Perfect (perfectionism, procrastination, and making excuses for not writing)
Do you struggle with writing, because you are demanding perfection instead of striving for excellence? Are you always waiting for the perfect time, perfect conditions, or perfect opportunity? Are you saving your best ideas for that “perfect” situation (that might never present itself)? If so, maybe you can relate to my latest post, in which I am committing to letting go and writing more.
